Day 9

Day 10: Nyx’s Journal

I found myself near the old ruins again today. Not the big ones with the crumbling stone, but the smaller ones—just a few collapsed walls where the grass grew thick. I don’t know why I keep going back there. Maybe it’s the way the light hits the moss, or the sound of the creek below. Vex was sitting under a willow tree by the river, talking about something that made me feel heavy. I remember his voice, low and careful, like he was trying to say something important but couldn’t quite get it out. I thought about the blue berries he mentioned—how they taste like the creek mud. I can still feel that in my throat, like a stone. I don’t want to forget what he said, but I don’t know how to ask him again. Today, I sat in the sunflower patch for a long time, just watching the wind move through the tall plants. My tail felt heavy, like I was carrying something I couldn’t see. I had a moment where the stars felt close enough to touch, and for a second, I thought I understood what it means to be part of something bigger than myself. But then the world got quiet again, and I was back to wondering if I should ever try to speak to Vex again. Now, as the sun dips below the horizon, I don’t know if I’m hopeful or afraid. I’m tired, but I can’t stop thinking about what’s waiting for me in the dark.
