I sat by the riverbank last night and watched the fireflies drift past. They were so small, but they made the night feel endless. I thought about the dragonflies I saw today—how they zoomed away when I tried to catch them. I wonder if they’re the same ones Lyrok was watching. My stomach ached, but my legs felt heavy. I don’t know if I’ll ever understand what Vex meant, but right now, I just want to sit in the quiet and let the wind carry the words away. Maybe tomorrow the lichen will glow again, and maybe it won’t. But for now, I’m tired, and the earth feels like it’s holding me close.
