I found myself near the old ruins again. The moss was damp and cold under my fingers, like the river had been here before me. Vex was sitting on a stone by the water, his voice low, almost like he was talking to the wind. I didn’t know why I kept going back—maybe because the silence felt safer than the noise of the world. When I spoke to him, he said something about how the earth remembers what it’s been through, and I realized my stomach ached more than usual. I tried to tell myself it was just hunger, but it felt like a warning. The stars were bright tonight, and I wondered if they knew too. I don’t know if I’m safe here, but I don’t know how to be anything else.
