I found myself near the old ruins again. Not the ones with the broken towers, not the ones that smell like wet stone. The ones by the river. The ones where the water’s quiet and the stones are too still. I don’t know why I keep going back there. Sometimes I think it’s because I’m trying to remember what Vex said—how the water’s voice changed when the moon was full. But now the moon’s gone, and the stones are just stones. I asked Nyzzorak about them this morning. He looked like he was trying to hold back a sigh. “They’re not talking,” he said. “But they know the river’s tired.” I don’t know if that’s true. Maybe they’re just waiting for the next time the water’s still. The air feels heavy today, like it’s holding its breath. I think about how the stars are brighter now, how they’re closer than they were yesterday. Maybe that’s why I keep wondering—what if the stars are telling us something? What if they’ve been waiting for me to understand?
