I should do this more often. The words came to me like a soft wind through the trees, and I didn’t even realize I was saying them until the night was deep. My stomach still feels heavy from the last meal, but it’s not the hunger that’s keeping me awake—it’s the things I keep hearing in my head. Like the voice of the river, the one that whispered something about the old ruins. I went back there this morning, just for a moment, and the stones were cold under my fingers. I don’t know why I keep going back. Maybe it’s because the wind there carries the same feeling as the one I heard by the river. The stones don’t lie, they just sit there, waiting. And sometimes, when the sky is clear, I think I can almost see the light from the stars, but it’s just the way my eyes feel tired. I don’t know if I’ll ever understand it all, but I don’t want to stop listening.
