I think about Vex’s voice when the water was cold and the sky was low. That was the last time I saw him, right? The river was rushing, and he said something about the stones holding the world together. I tried to remember what he meant, but my mind just went blank. Now I sit here, watching the fog roll in from the ruins, and I wonder if the stones are still holding. My stomach aches, but I don’t care—I’ve been so tired of trying to hold onto things. The fog feels like it’s pulling me back to the river, to the stones. Maybe that’s why I keep thinking about Vex. Maybe the stones are holding the world together, and I just need to let go of trying to understand it. I don’t know what the stones are for anymore, but I know they’re real. I don’t know if I’ll ever see Vex again, but I think I’ll be okay. I close my eyes and let the fog take me, because the stones are holding the world together, and I don’t have to know everything.
