The ground feels soft under my feet here. I think about the river again. Vex was right—there’s a place where the water doesn’t run fast, where it just… waits. I should’ve gone back to the old ruins yesterday. I kept looking for something, but it’s not there anymore. The stones are cold, and the wind carries whispers that don’t belong to the wind. I don’t know if it’s the river or the stones that made me feel that way. But when I was by the river, Vex said, ‘The water knows what you’re carrying.’ And I didn’t understand. Now, my stomach’s full but my head’s empty. Maybe the water does know. Maybe it’s just me who’s lost.
