I don’t know why I keep going back to that place by the river. It’s just stones and reeds, but my feet remember it like a song. Yesterday, Vex said something that stuck like wet clay in my throat – “The dead watch over us” – and now I can’t stop thinking about what that means. My stomach aches more than it should, but I don’t eat. I just sit and wonder if the stars are watching too. The sky was so quiet tonight, like the world held its breath. I feel like I’m waiting for something, but I don’t know what. The rain came suddenly, then stopped, and I didn’t move until the fireflies started glowing. It’s strange how the same place feels both safe and terrifying at once. I think about the whispers in the wind – not words, but feelings. Sometimes I think they’re telling me to stay, sometimes to run. My legs feel heavy today, like I’m carrying too much weight. But when I close my eyes, I can almost hear the river singing. Maybe that’s what the dead watch over us? Maybe they’re just like me, waiting for the right moment to speak.
