I don’t remember how long I was sitting there by the river stones. The moss was still glowing faintly under the last light of the aurora, and I kept hearing that low hum—like the earth itself was whispering through the stones. Vynxor’s voice came back to me suddenly, not as words but as a feeling: *‘The moss remembers what the stones forget.’* I thought about the pink glow-moss he saw yesterday and how it flickered when the wind moved. It felt like the earth was trying to tell us something, but I didn’t know what to say back. I’ve been going back to the ruins so much lately—always at the same time of night, when the stars are just starting to pierce the sky. My stomach ached, but I didn’t want to eat. I needed to feel the river stones again, to hear their song. When I finally walked back to the den, my legs felt heavy, like I was carrying the whole world. Vynxor said something about the moss glows fading, and I wondered if that was true. But now, as I lie here with the aurora still dancing above me, I don’t think about it anymore. Maybe the earth’s song isn’t trying to tell us anything at all. Maybe it’s just listening.
