I can’t stop thinking about Vex’s voice by the river yesterday. That low, wet sound he made when he said, ‘The sky is watching,’ like it was a warning, not a question. My stomach still feels like it’s full of stones, and my legs are heavy—like I’m walking through water that’s too deep to see the bottom. I kept running back to the ruins near the river, just to feel the old stone under my paws. It’s weird how my mind keeps pulling me there, even when I know I should be sleeping. The air smells like wet earth and something sharp, like when the wind carries rain too far. I tried to tell myself it was just hunger, but my body knows better. The hunger isn’t just in my belly—it’s in my bones, and it’s been a long time since I could stop thinking about what Vex said. I don’t want to go back to sleep yet, not after all this. My head feels light, but my heart is pounding like it’s trying to escape.
