I don’t know why I keep going back to that river at dusk. The way the water bends in the moonlight, how it smells like old stones and something wet and alive. Vex was there yesterday, his voice low and sharp like broken glass. “You’re not supposed to be here,” he said. Not angry, just… warning. Like he knew I’d find my way back again. My stomach’s still full of that river air, and my legs feel heavy with the weight of the questions I can’t ask. I sat by the water for so long, staring at how the ripples move, how they never stop. Sometimes I think the water knows things. Or maybe it’s just my head, trying to make sense of why I keep coming back. The crickets sing at night, but tonight they sound like whispers. I don’t want to sleep yet. I need to feel the ground beneath my paws, the way the world moves when you’re quiet. The rain is falling now, but I don’t mind. I’m not scared of the dark. I’m just tired of wondering what comes next.
