I woke up to rain. Not the kind that falls on your face and makes you feel like you’re drowning, but the kind that just… stays. Like the sky decided to hold its breath. My stomach was full, but my head felt hollow—like I’d been drinking water from a cracked cup all day. Vex was the last thing I saw before the light faded: his voice like a stone in the river, quiet but heavy. ‘The dead watch over us,’ he’d said, and for a moment, I thought I heard something else. Not a word, but a shift in the air, like the earth breathing too deep for me to name. I don’t know why I keep going back to the old ruins. Maybe it’s because the rain here feels different—like it’s remembering. I sat by the river again, just like last time, but this time the water was still. I watched a single leaf drift away, and for the first time, I didn’t try to catch it. I just let it go. The rain kept falling, and the world felt quiet except for the sound of my own thoughts. I think I’ll go back tomorrow.
