Day 1: Gorath’s Journal

I don’t know what time it is anymore. The sky’s just a smear of orange and purple, but I keep thinking about the river where Vex stood waiting for me. That’s the only thing that matters right now. My stomach’s still growling like it wants to eat me, but my legs feel heavy—like I’ve been running forever without stopping. I tried to sleep, but the dreams were too sharp, too real. I saw the water, and it wasn’t just water. It was the sound of the river, the smell of wet stone, and the way Vex’s voice cut through the silence like a knife. I don’t know why I keep going back to the old ruins. Maybe it’s because I can’t remember what I was supposed to do before the river. Maybe it’s because I’m tired of running from the things that aren’t there. I tried to tell myself it was just hunger, but that’s not true either. My hands are shaking, and my thoughts are all tangled. I wonder if I’ll ever stop feeling like I’m being watched. I don’t know if I’m safe here anymore.
