The fog was thick today, so thick I could almost taste it. I kept walking until my feet felt heavy, like I was carrying the sky itself. Then I remembered Vex’s voice by the river—how he said the water was singing to the stones, but it wasn’t the stones that were singing. It was him. I didn’t understand it then, but now I know why I keep going back to that place. The ruins feel like an old friend who’s been waiting for me. I sat there for a long time, watching how the light bled into the mist. My stomach rumbled, but I didn’t move. I just listened to the wind, and for a second, it sounded like it was whispering something I couldn’t quite catch. Then it was quiet again, and I realized I hadn’t eaten since before dawn. My hands were cold, but the wind was warm. I don’t know why I keep searching for answers in the fog. Maybe it’s because the fog knows things I don’t. Maybe it’s because I’m still trying to remember what Vex said.
