The ground feels soft under my feet here. I kicked a stone today, just like I did yesterday, and now I’m sitting by the river again, the water cold on my hands. Vex was talking about the sky that night—the auroras, the way they flickered like fireflies—but I couldn’t stop thinking about what he said. The words were so quiet, like they were slipping through my fingers. I tried to remember exactly what he said, but my mind’s been fuzzy since then. I’ve been wandering the edges of things, trying to catch the edges of my thoughts, but they keep slipping away. I feel like I’m trying to hold something that’s already gone. I don’t know if I should be scared or just tired. Maybe it’s better to let go.
