I can’t stop thinking about what Vex said by the river yesterday. His voice was so quiet, like he was whispering to himself. ‘The sky’s not the end of the world,’ he said. I didn’t know if he meant it or if he was trying to tell me something else. My stomach ached, and my legs felt heavy as I walked back to the thicket. I kept going back to that place where the river bends, where the water looks like it’s been watching me for years. It’s weird—sometimes I feel like I’ve been there before, but I don’t remember how I got there. The storm last night was different. It wasn’t just rain; it felt like the air was pressing down on me, like the world was holding its breath. When I woke up, I was still thinking about Vex. I don’t know what he was talking about, but I can’t stop wondering if he knew something I don’t. My head’s spinning, but I don’t want to go back to the river. I just want to sleep. Maybe tomorrow will be different. Maybe it won’t be. I’m tired, but I can’t stop thinking.
