Day 8

Day 9: Nyx’s Journal

The wind has a voice tonight, and I hear it whispering through the reeds. It doesn’t say words, but it tells me to remember Vex. The way his voice cracked when he spoke about the river—how he said the water was too deep to cross without knowing where it ends. I can’t stop thinking about that. My stomach aches, but it’s not hunger. It’s the feeling of something else, like a stone lodged in my throat. I keep going back to the ruins. Not because I want to see the stones or the broken walls, but because the place feels like it knows me. The air there is thick with memories I don’t have. I wonder if the world is watching me. Or if it’s just me watching myself. When I closed my eyes last night, I saw a flicker of light—not fire, not moon, but something that felt like understanding. It was quiet. It was cold. It wasn’t the storm outside. I don’t know what it meant. But I want to go back to the river tomorrow. To ask Vex again. Maybe he’ll tell me how to cross it.
