Day 14: Kron’s Journal

I woke up to the sound of rain on the leaves, the same kind of rain that used to fall when Vex was here. I sat up in the grass, my stomach growling louder than usual. The sky was gray, but I could still see the flicker of the last light from the river in the distance. I didn’t want to go back to the river, but I kept thinking about what Vex said — how the water was whispering secrets to the stones. My legs felt heavy, like I’d been walking all day, and my head throbbed with questions I couldn’t answer. I remember the coldness of the stones under my hands, how they felt like the earth itself was holding its breath. I sat there for a long time, listening to the rain, wondering if I’d ever understand what Vex meant.
