I found myself near the old ruins again. Not because I wanted to, but because I couldn’t stop my feet from leading me there. The air smelled like wet stone and something else—like the river when it’s too cold. Vex was sitting by the water earlier, his voice low, almost like he was telling me something important. I don’t know why I keep going back to that place. Maybe it’s because I can’t forget what he said. Something about the dead watching us. I thought it was just a whisper on the wind, but now I’m not sure. My stomach aches and my legs feel heavy, but I don’t care. I just want to sit down and let the silence take me. The fireflies are drifting past, but they don’t seem to matter anymore. I wonder if tomorrow will be safer. Or if it will be the same as today—just me, the wind, and the quiet.
