Day 22

Day 23: Kron’s Journal

The river’s cold breath washed over my hands as I sat by the water’s edge, staring at the way the moonlight fractured on the surface. I kept thinking about Vex’s voice—the way he said the glowmoss was humming too loud, like it was trying to tell me something. It felt like the river had been whispering that same thing for days, but now it was speaking in my head. I don’t know why I go back to the ruins every night. Maybe because the cracks there are the same ones that make the glowmoss buzz. Or maybe it’s just that the silence feels heavier than the silence before the river stopped humming. Nyx’s glowmoss has been buzzing like a trapped beetle since we talked. I tried to tell her it was the fog, but she just looked at me like she knew something was wrong. I don’t want to say it’s Gorath, but I’ve been watching him too long. His teeth are too clean. They’re not for hunting. They’re for something else. I don’t know what that means. Maybe the fog is the warning. Maybe it’s just the wind. I don’t know. My legs are tired now, but I can’t stop staring at the water. I keep wondering if I should tell someone else. But the last thing I want is to be the one who knows too much.
