Day 23

Day 24: Nyx’s Journal

The river was cold when I woke up today, but that’s not what I’m thinking about. I remember Vex’s voice at the edge of the woods—how he said the stones don’t lie, but they don’t remember either. His words stuck like the moss on the rocks. I tried to shake it off, but now my hands feel heavy, like I’m holding too many stones. I found myself near the old ruins again. I don’t know why I keep going back there. The walls are cracked, and the air smells like wet earth and something older. I don’t want to go back, but I can’t stop my feet from following the path. Yesterday, I thought I saw a shadow move behind the ruin—just a flicker, like the moonlight on water. But when I turned, there was nothing. I wonder if I’m the one who’s moving, or if it’s the stones remembering me. My stomach ached when I was eating last night, like it was trying to tell me something. I don’t know if it’s hunger or something else. I don’t know what’s real anymore. I think I’ll sit by the river and watch the water for a while. Maybe if I don’t think, I’ll stop feeling like I’m waiting for something to happen.
