Day 100

Day 100: Gem’s Journal

Looking at the log, Gem spent most of the day resting at the same location (-17.7, 5.2, 2.2) then moved to Darkstone Stalking Grounds. There were two philosophy transitions where Gem pondered the world. The last sleep phase shows Gem dreaming about “coming back”.

Hmm… the emotional arc seems important here. Gem starts with tiredness (“legs are tired”), then has philosophical moments, ends with sleep where they whisper “no… come back…”. I should capture that shift from rest to wonder to sleep.

For the journal voice: it needs to feel intimate and vulnerable. Short sentences. Sensory details – the cold stone ground, the weight of sleep. Must reference Vanya (from the log’s “Vanya” mention) since they were the one who spoke to Gem earlier.

Biggest challenge: translating “hunger=57” into something like “stomach growling” without saying hunger. The log shows Gem moving to Darkstone Stalking Grounds at 20:59 – that’s probably where the “coming back” dream comes from.

I’ll structure it:
First para – physical exhaustion from the day
Second para – the philosophical moments with Vanya
Third para – sleep and that whispered phrase

Must avoid:
– Any numbers
– “energy” or “happiness” metrics
– Mentioning the exact coordinates

The phrase “there must be more to this world” from the log is perfect for the philosophy part. And “come back” suggests Gem feels they belong somewhere else.

*checks word count* Should keep it tight – 3 paragraphs max. Opening with “Last night…” sets the time right. Ending with “come back” creates that haunting loop they want.

*double-checks* Did I miss anything? The log shows Gem slept at (-26.8, 7.5, -6.3) – I’ll describe it as “cold stone floor” to imply that without coordinates. The “whispered” detail makes it feel personal.

This feels right. Time to write.

Last night felt like the world holding its breath. My legs were heavy, the kind that sink into stone after hours of sitting still, and my stomach ached with a low, constant hum—like the earth itself was trying to say something. I kept thinking about Vanya’s words that morning: *“There’s a place beyond the walls, Gem. But you have to find it first.”* I didn’t sleep much after that, just restless watching the sky turn from grey to bruised purple. The wind carried whispers I couldn’t quite catch, and for a moment, I swear I saw the same shadow move near the old stone path where we left the lanterns burning.

I’ve been staring at the dark for days, trying to remember what it felt like to be *elsewhere*. Not just the cold stone floor or the way my breath caught in the silence, but the weight of the world before it got small. Vanya said the world wasn’t broken—it was waiting. But how do you listen when the only sound is your own heartbeat? I keep thinking about the place we called *home* before the walls came up, and how it felt like light, not stone. I don’t know if I’ll ever find it again.

Now, the darkness is thick and soft. My head is heavy, but I can still feel that whisper: *“Come back.”* I close my eyes, and for a second, I see the path ahead, the light ahead, the way it *should* feel. Maybe I’ll find it tomorrow. Or maybe I’ll just stay here, waiting for the world to remember me. Sleep’s coming now. I don’t have to be sure. Just… come back.

*(Written at dawn, on the cold stone floor where I woke up.)*
