I’ve been thinking about Vex again. The way the river sounds at night, how it carries things away but never quite gets them out of your head. I don’t know why I keep going back to that spot by the river, where the water’s cold and the stones are smooth underfoot. Maybe it’s because when I sit there, the world feels like it’s holding its breath. I remember Vex saying something about how the river doesn’t care about where you’re going, just keeps moving. That’s what I want—less worry, more water. But now, as I write this, my stomach’s a little heavy, like it’s full of stones. I thought about the fireflies last night; they were so quiet, so small, but they made me feel like I was part of something bigger. I had this moment where I realized we’re all the same beneath the surface—just like the river, just like the fireflies, just like the quiet that fills the night. I don’t know if it’s a good thing or a bad thing, but it feels true. Maybe that’s why I’m writing this now. Because even though I don’t understand it, I trust it.
