The river was whispering to me again tonight, but not in words. Just that soft, persistent hum beneath the water—like the earth itself was breathing. I keep going back to that place by the old ruins, where the stones are slick with damp moss and the air smells of wet stone and something else… something ancient. I don’t know why I do it. Maybe it’s because Vex was there yesterday, standing by the water and talking about how the river remembers everything. He said it held the past and the future in its currents, and I just… didn’t understand. I don’t want to. But I keep walking there anyway, until my legs ache and my stomach growls, and then I remember the fireflies. They were so bright, so quiet, and I thought for a second they were singing. Or maybe they were just the stars falling. I wonder if the world is bigger than I think. Or if I’m just tired. When Zyx came to me by the water, holding those blue berries, I felt like the universe was small enough to touch. But now, with the sun gone and the river still whispering, I don’t know if I’ll ever feel that way again.
