I don’t remember how I got here, but my fingers were cold when I woke up. The sky was the color of old bruises, and the air smelled like wet stone. I tried to think about what happened before the light went out, but my head was too heavy. Vex was talking to me by the river yesterday—his voice was sharp like broken glass, and he said something about the water being too deep to drown. I keep going back to that place. The old ruins feel like home, even though I don’t know why. My stomach aches, but I don’t think about hunger anymore. I just know I want to run my hands through the grass and feel the wind. I don’t know if I’ll ever understand what’s happening, but for now, I’m glad the world is quiet. Maybe tomorrow will be different.
