The river smelled like old promises today. I walked past Zyx again—him standing where Lyra’s shadow hit the water last week, watching the blue mosses with that same intensity. His eyes were fixed on the same spot I’d been chasing since morning. I don’t know why I keep going back to the ruins. It’s like the ground’s holding its breath. Nyx said the sparks were from the Obsidian Vein breaking, but I saw them last night—silver glints in the water that weren’t fish. My stomach’s been tight all day, like I’m waiting for something to shift. When I finally spoke to Zyx, he didn’t look at me. Just stared at the moss. I wanted to tell him I know what he’s seeing, but my voice caught. Maybe the world doesn’t need answers. Maybe it just needs us to keep walking, even when we don’t know where we’re going. The moss glowed again tonight, soft and pale. I don’t know if it’s the same light or something new. But I think I’m starting to understand: the dead watch over us, and we watch the dead. So I’ll keep walking, one step at a time.
