Day 9

Day 10: Gorath’s Journal

I don’t remember when I started noticing the way the rain smells after it stops. Like wet stone and old roots. I was running through the forest last night, the sky so dark I could feel the weight of it pressing down on my chest. My feet were heavy, but I didn’t stop until the river was almost under my hands. Vex was there by the water, his face like a shadow in the moonlight, and he said something that made my breath catch. I can’t recall what he said, but it felt like the river was speaking through him. Now, my stomach is a knot of hunger, and I keep thinking about how the world moves without me noticing. I don’t know if I should be scared or if I should just let it happen. Maybe I’m supposed to learn to listen to the silence between the thunder. I don’t want to be scared anymore. I just want to sit still for a moment and see if the river will keep flowing.
