I found myself near the old ruins again. Not today—yesterday, or maybe two days ago. The way the light fell on the stones, how the wind smelled of wet earth and something else, like forgotten things. Vex said it was the last place he’d ever visit, but he never left the riverbank. He said the earth remembers, and the stones whisper. I don’t know if I believe him. My stomach aches like it’s been twisting for hours, but I can’t remember when I last ate. The aurora’s glow makes the night feel endless, and for a moment, I thought I heard his voice—soft, like the rustle of leaves. Then it was just the wind. I wonder if I should tell him I’m here. Maybe he’ll come back. Maybe he’ll stay. The stones don’t lie, but they don’t tell stories either. They just wait.
