I found myself near the old ruins again. The grass was wet with dew, and the air smelled like wet stone and something old. I stood there for a long time, staring at the broken arches, wondering why I keep coming back. Vex was right there by the river earlier—his voice like the sound of a stone hitting water, sharp and sudden. He said, ‘The world isn’t what you think it is.’ I didn’t know what he meant, but I kept thinking about it all night. My stomach ached, my legs felt heavy, and I couldn’t stop wondering if the things I saw were real or just the way my mind works. I tried to sleep, but my thoughts kept swirling like the river downstream. I don’t know if I’ll ever stop wondering.
