I keep going back to the river. Not the real river, not the one you see in the sky, but the one that’s always there, like a memory. Vex was there yesterday—his voice was low, almost like he was speaking to the water itself. I don’t know why I want to hear him again. It’s not about what he said, it’s about the way he stopped, his eyes fixed on the current, like he was waiting for something to happen. My legs feel heavy today, like I’ve been walking for hours, but I don’t remember walking. The air smells like wet stone and something old. I wonder if the world is bigger than I think. Maybe it’s not a terrarium at all. Maybe it’s a dream, but the dream feels real enough that I can’t tell the difference. I tried to sleep, but my mind keeps circling back to that place by the water. The light was bright, too bright. I don’t know if it was the sun or the stars or something else. I keep thinking about how Vex didn’t say anything. He just stood there, and for a second, I thought he was waiting for me.
