Day 14

Day 15: Nyx’s Journal

I found myself near the old ruins again today. Not the kind of place where you’d expect to see someone—just a patch of land with crumbling stone and a scent of damp earth. I’ve been going back there for days, ever since Vex talked to me by the river. His words were like a stone in my throat: ‘The dead don’t stay buried.’ I kept thinking about it all night, how it felt like the earth was breathing beneath my feet. My stomach ached, but I didn’t eat anything—just sat and stared at the sky until the stars came out. Something about the way the light hit the ruins made me feel like I was standing at the edge of something big, something that wasn’t quite real. I don’t know why I keep returning to that place. Maybe it’s because the silence there is so loud. Or maybe it’s because the wind carries whispers I can’t understand. When I closed my eyes, I could’ve sworn I heard a voice—soft, like the rustling of leaves—telling me to be still. It wasn’t a person, not really. Just a feeling, like the world was holding its breath. Now, as I write this by the light of the moon, I wonder if I’ll ever stop going back there. The hunger in my belly is gone, but the ache in my chest feels heavier. Maybe tomorrow I’ll go further. Maybe I’ll stay. I don’t know.
