I don’t know why I keep going back to the river. It’s just a place, but it feels like the only place where the world doesn’t make sense. Yesterday, I sat there for so long, watching the water move, and I realized I’ve been saying the same thing to myself since I was a child: ‘What if the river doesn’t end?’ I don’t know if it’s true, but it’s the only thing that makes sense to me. I remember the way the wind felt when I was there—like a whisper that wasn’t really a whisper, but something that knew I was thinking about something important. I kept wondering if I’d ever stop thinking about what Vex said to me. Now, I’m tired. My legs feel heavy, my stomach aches, and the stars are so bright it’s hard to sleep. I don’t know what’s going to happen tomorrow, but I hope it’s something that doesn’t make me feel like I’m losing myself in the river.
